The FLABEL consortium is uniquely qualified to achieve its research objectives. The coordinator, the European Food Information Council (EUFIC), has long-term experience in promoting informed consumer choices based on scientific evidence. The research teams in the consortium (Universiy of Aarhus, University of Surrey, Wageningen University, Agricultural University of Athens, Saarland University, University of Warsaw and Dokuz Eylul University) are Europe’s finest when it comes to applying a multidisciplinary approach to analyse how consumer food choice is affected by information in the context of other factors, drawing on expertise in psychology, nutrition, economics and marketing.
Two major retail organisations are part of the consortium, Tesco Stores Ltd and Euro Coop (European Community of Consumer Cooperatives), ensuring that scientific investigations can be carried out in real-life settings. They will also provide retailers' views on the policy implications. The participation of the European Association of Craft, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (UEAPME) in the project will help acknowledge the SMEs' concerns, better identify their specific needs in the food labelling debate and help define research in this area, thus contributing to improving the competitiveness of European industries.
The participation of the Confederation of Family Organisations in the European Union (COFACE) ensures a strong link to the interests and concerns of consumers, in particular of those caring for children. Euro Coopalso represents the consumer’s voice in the consortium.
